Packaging Guidelines
Packaging Guidelines Before sending any item, consider the size, weight and fragility of the article. This will help determine the appropriate packaging to use.
There are a few basic guidelines you can follow when preparing your parcels for delivery which improve the safety of your article during transit and ensure it is more presentable to the recipient:
- Use space as wisely as possible, since the cost of sending a parcel is usually determined by size and weight of the parcel.
- Fill any space inside your parcel with cushioning material, such as Postpak Bubble Wrap, to protect the article from moving around in transit.
- Cushioning material should be light and able to absorb pressure and impact.
- Wrap contents carefully and keep items separate to avoid breakages. More fragile items should be individually wrapped and should have approximately 5cm of cushioning between the item and the sides and corners of the box.
- The strength of a box diminishes the more times it is used so where possible always use a new box. If you reuse a box, ensure you use a strong, sturdy box with flaps intact and remove any labels or information from prior deliveries.
- Use a strong tape, like Postpak Tape, to close the box and seal the box by taping down all flaps. The right tape will add strength to your parcel's wrapping. Try to avoid using masking tape or cellophane tape and never use string.
- Always make sure the recipient's address and your address are clear, legible and correct. If they are not, it could delay delivery of your parcel.
